Calf Implants

Calf implants surgery is a surgical procedure that can be performed when you want to change the volume or shape of your calves for aesthetic or functional reasons. This surgery is performed by placing implants in the calves or by transferring fat from different parts of the body directly to the calves instead of implants. The goal of the surgery is to give the calves a fuller, more symmetrical and more aesthetic appearance.

Calf augmentation surgery, which may be necessary for aesthetic or functional reasons, may also be performed for the following reasons

– Congenital anomalies: In the case of congenital asymmetrical or underdeveloped calves, calf augmentation surgery can make the calves more proportional to the body.

– Accidents or injuries: Loss of muscle due to injury may have caused the shape of the calf to change.

– Diseases: Some muscle diseases can weaken the calves.

– Aesthetic causes: It may be desired to make the calves look fuller and more aesthetic.

Who is a good candidate for the calf implants surgery?

There are some requirements before deciding to have calf augmentation surgery. Your doctor will discuss these in detail during your consultation. However, in general terms, suitable candidates for calf augmentation surgery are as follows:

  • Those in good general health
  • Non-smokers or those who can stop smoking before and after surgery
  • Those with realistic expectations
  • Understand the risks and benefits of the procedure

How is calf implants surgery performed?

It is possible to perform calf augmentation surgery in two ways. One of these methods is done by placing implants in the calves and the other is done by fat transfer method.

Implant Method: Considering how much calf augmentation will be performed, calf implants of appropriate sizes are made available before surgery. After anesthesia, the surgeon makes incisions to provide suitable space for the placement of these implants in the calves. Through these incisions, the implants are placed under the calf muscles. These implants are usually made of silicone material and give the calves a fuller appearance. After the placement of the implant, the surgeon makes final corrections to achieve a natural look in the calves. In the last step, the incisions are meticulously sutured closed and the surgery is finalized.

Fat Transfer: In this method, the fat to be injected into the calves is first taken from the person’s own body. These fats are usually taken from around the belly and waist where the fat is most intense. The fat is subjected to pre-injection preparation procedures and after it is ready to be injected, it is injected into the right areas of the calves through thin cannulas.

Things to Consider After Surgery

There may be swelling and bruising in the calves for the first few days after surgery. This is normal and will disappear within a few weeks. In order to overcome the healing process with minimal pain and discomfort, painkillers and antibiotics recommended by the doctor should be used regularly.

In order to get maximum benefit from the surgery, it is necessary to use the medical corset worn after surgery for 3-4 weeks. Heavy sports and excessive physical activities should also be avoided during this period when the healing process continues.

Of course, as with any surgical procedure, calf augmentation surgery also has risks. Therefore, before planning the surgery, we should conduct detailed research on the subject and consult an experienced plastic surgeon.
